Reliquaries

Containers made to hold relics -- the remains of holy persons or objects that had contact with them. Reliquaries are often made with precious materials, such as gold, silver and gemstones to indicate on the outside of the container the precious nature of the relics within. Reliquaries may have windows of a transparent material, such as crystal, or have openings to allow the faithful to see the actual relics inside.
